Who I am.
I grew up in Lewes, Del., and attended
the University of Florida, graduating with a degree in public
relations. Before my freelance career, I worked as a copywriter for a membership-based billing service, in marketing communications for a well-known entertainment venue and as the editor of a regional woman's magazine; I have also edited and written a variety of materials for this publisher as well.
Horses were my passion growing up: My first pony,
Moonie, still lives at my parents’ farm in Delaware.
We sold my last horse, a jumper named Carbonada, in 1999. Time
and money keep me from riding horses these days, but I’m
still health and fitness oriented: When I’m not working,
you’ll find me mountain biking, road biking, running
or hiking. If it’s outdoors and it’s active, I’m
doing it.
What I do.
I love words. Writing, editing, tweaking, improving. I love
it. I can be as creative – or as conventional – as
your project requires. Whether I’m writing or editing,
I follow all grammar rules and write according to your specified
style (Associated Press, MLA or Chicago are my favorites).
But I also know when it’s effective to drop all the rules
and go with what works … with what will move your readers.
What I believe.
I believe that there is a perfect word for every purpose. My
job is to find the perfect words for your project and put them
together in a coherent manner. I also believe that our readers
are smart. For this reason, I don’t like telling them
what they think or making them think too much: Rather, I like
to create and enjoyable and beneficial experience for our readers,
whomever they may be.
